Alabama Coastal BirdFest October 19-22, 2006 Eastern Shore and Mobile Phone: 251-929-0922 Come to the BirdFest, held annually, and enjoy nearly 20 guided
birding tours along the Alabama Coastal Birding Trail including stops
at Weeks Bay, Bellingrath Gardens, Bayou la Batre, Historic Blakeley
State Park and the Tensaw Delta, Dauphin Island, Bon Secour, and Gulf
Shores. "This year, we have added several new tours and will repeat
visits to some of last year's most popular destinations," said Borom.
"We've scheduled daily boat tours at Weeks Bay and in the Delta,
which were a huge attraction last year."
"The Alabama Gulf Coast did receive water and wind damage from
Hurricane Katrina, but not anything like reports from Mississippi and
Louisiana that people are seeing on TV and the Internet," said John
Borom, one of the event organizers. "We believe that most of the
birding sites were not that affected and will be accessible for
BirdFest. We may have to reroute a few of our tours, but we will do
our best to make certain that everyone has a good time"
"Coastal Alabama is a critical stopover point during the annual
fall migration of many birds, traveling from as far north as the
Arctic Circle in North America to winter homes in Central and South
America, which makes this a wonderful time and place to see birds
from all over the North American continent," said John Borom,
President of the Mobile Bay Audubon Society and one of the event
organizers.
